Grown in the foothills of the Misty Forests along the east coast of central Mexico, in the state of Veracruz, our macadamia nuts are grown keeping in mind the indigenous plants of the region and keeping the surrounding forests of the plantation as close to its original habitat as possible in order to sustain the areas natural biodiversity.
Resting on the Sierra Madre Oriental and the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt in the evergreen subtropical forest, the state’s abundant rainfall and extremely fertile
soil make it a perfect place for macadamia nut trees to grow.
Macadamia’s account for just a small portion of the agricultural products that are grown in the area. The vast majority of the products grown there include coffee, sugarcane, bananas, coconuts, vanilla, and corn.
Water from the melting snow from the Sierra Madre Oriental’s run-off irrigate
the fields of the plantation during the coldest months from November through
May.
Our macadamia nuts begin falling to the plantation floor from August until March and April where they are harvested by hand using ground pickers that are pushed along to collect the fallen nuts.
Once they have been harvested, they are carefully arranged in larger wood racks to be naturally dried by the hot tropical air. They are then taken to a local processing plant to be heat dried by kilns that are warmed by the hard outer
shells of previous macadamia nuts.
Leobardo, our Plantation Manager keeps care of the grounds throughout the year. When not harvesting nuts, he, and his brother, Demetrio, are taking care of the property and the macadamia trees.
